Our Home at Holmes Beach is a spacious, beautifully appointed, fully equipped house in a quiet residential neighborhood only two short blocks from the great Gulf beach, two blocks from the public library, and two blocks from shopping and restaurants. We love it there, and we think you will, too!

THE AREA

Discover the delights of old Florida on lovely Anna Maria Island. All three towns on this unspoiled island are small and friendly. The beach runs for seven unobstructed miles, facing west toward the Gulf of Mexico. Once on the beach, you can walk (or run) with no impediments from the top of the island, facing St. Petersburg and Tampa, to the bottom, where a short drawbridge takes you to Longboat Key. All water sports are possible: swimming, sailing, fishing, scuba-diving, water-skiing, parasailing, kayaking, and jet-skiing. Various boat charter services are also available. Bicycle and motor-scooter rentals on the island add further possibilities for fun and recreation.
On the island are three pleasant parks right on the beach: Bayfront Park to the north in the town of Anna Maria; Coquina Beach down south in Bradenton Beach; and Manatee County Public Beach less than a mile away in the middle of the island at Holmes Beach. Tennis courts and a small golf course can also be found on the island, along with shops and restaurants of every description. Click here for a partial listing of businesses. For chic shopping and dining south of the island, head to St. Armand's Circle 30 minutes away just past Longboat Key.
Both on the island and throughout the area, good restaurants abound. Ask us, and we'll tell you some of our favorites.
One of the great bargains on Anna Maria is a free trolley (yes, free!). It runs the length of the island, making dozens of stops, and comes along every twenty minutes from early morning to late evening. There's no need for a car once you settle in!
But if you do wish to explore the area, there are many exciting things to see and do. Sarasota, 45 minutes away, is a center of Florida culture. There you can enjoy good book stores, the world-class Ringling Art Museum, theater, ballet, opera, music of all kinds, and first-run independent films at the Burns Court Cinema. For family activities, there's Jungle Gardens, the Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary, the Mote Marine Laboratory, and the gorgeous Selby Botanical Gardens.
In Bradenton (15 minutes away) is an excellent art, science, and natural history museum that all members of the family will enjoy, the South Florida Museum. Also in Bradenton is the De Soto National Memorial Park, where the ruthless Spanish conquistador, Hernando de Soto, first landed in this area. Bradenton, like Sarasota, has several theater companies and first-rate cineplexes for drama and movie lovers.
Also within easy driving distance (an hour or less) are many excellent state parks-including Myakka River State Park, Historic Spanish Point, and Lake Manatee State Park.
If you wish to explore a larger urban area, the agglomeration of Tampa-St. Petersburg is an hour or so to the north. Depending on season, enjoy a baseball game at Tropicana Field with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, a football game at Raymond James Stadium with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or hockey at the St. Pete Times Forum with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There's also Adventure Island, Busch Gardens, and the Florida Aquarium to enjoy. All ages will love the Florida International Museum in St. Petersburg. Art lovers will be awed by collections at the Salvador Dali Museum, the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, and the Tampa Museum of Art.
For those wishing to move farther afield, Orlando with Disney World and other famous attractions is less than three hours away.
But you don't have to go anywhere. The best thing about Anna Maria is the casual, laid-back atmosphere that encourages you to stretch out, take it easy, read a book, take a swim, enjoy the sunset, eat a good meal, and generally do nothing but have a relaxing, stress-free, old-fashioned vacation.
